NEW IN: ELEPHANT MAGAZINE

Just arrived this week is a new magazine created by the lovely people at Magma and Studio 8.

With over 200 pages of visual content, Elephant aims to have more depth and breadth than any other visual art magazine. It digs deeper, ceaselessly asking and enquiring into creative trends and art movements and innovative techniques. In recent years, creative individuals have started to react against the corporate nature of things, taking initiative into their hands and starting new independent ventures. Elephant looks at how people do that. How do they go about starting a new publishing venture? How do they then move from publishing their own comics to featuring them in national newspapers? How do they turn their personal interests and design skills into hugely popular websites? How do they turn their obsessions into global trends? These questions are particularly relevant as we wake up to this post credit-crunch period. Elephant visits art and design studios, sits by desks, steps on graffiti artists’ toes, disturbs rehearsals and interrupts takes, rides fixed-gear bikes and plays with the latest computer games. The ELEPHANT is always in the room.

The magazine is available in store for £12.99.

NEW IN: SAGMEISTER MADE YOU LOOK

Just as film, art, music, and literature have the power to move people, Stefan Sagmeister's innovative work shows that graphic design, too, can cut to the emotional quick. His desire is to transform stale thinking, and Sagmeister: Made You Look does just that.
Compelling, honest, and intensely personal, Made You Look covers 20 years of Sagmeister's graphic design. With a text by design historian Peter Hall and annotated with Sagmeister's own writing, the book features images from the studio archive, as well as specific influences and reference points for his projects and ideas. Fully illustrated with a red PVC slipcase and silver-gilded pages, this monograph is a compilation of practically all the work Sagmeister and his studio ever designed up to 2001, even the bad stuff.

NEW IN AT MATERIAL

LULA magazine is created for those who love fashion, music, art, & make believe. LULA is gentle, whimsical and ethereal in tone, mixing high fashion to fall in love with and interviews that feel like late night chats with people you wish you knew.

Walton Ford: Pancha Tantra. Fantastic menagerie. A large format hardcover book published by Taschen that measures an impressive 28 x 37cm and costs a mere £45.

At first glance, Walton Ford’s large-scale, highly-detailed watercolors of animals may recall the prints of 19th century illustrators John James Audubon and Edward Lear, and others of the colonial era. But a closer look reveals a complex and disturbingly anthropomorphic universe, full of symbols, sly jokes, and allusions to the 'operatic' nature of traditional natural history themes.
Leonardo da Vinci Taschen special edition hardcover book with slipcase- also a whopping 25 x 37 cm in size and only £45.
